What's the point? Hmmm....Good question....

an interesting question was raised last night..."What does the world need? Does the world really 'need' more artists?...and if not, then maybe put your energy into filling the most necessary gaps." But whereas I agree- it is sometimes art overload especially with so much internet access...where we all get sort of lost in the shuffle of things....but what if you can't help doing what you do, and you do it because you have a deep love/passion for it? Then what? What if it's not so much about monetary recognition as much as it is that if you're not doing it, you feel like you're suffocating? Then what? I am curious what other artists and creators think of this concept....considering, of course, that with so much access the chances of many of you seeing or even responding (if you see it) this post are slim! [sigh] Oh well...

In response to "Does the world really 'need' more artists? I feel the world really, really needs a more artistic perspective. The perspectives in our society seem so uncreative to me. Looking at the buildings, the roads, school curriculum, the government, the war. In my humble opinion all of these parts of our society are created from very uncreative minds. Would an creative mind kill another person to get their needs met? Would they design some of the most unimaginative buildings? Would children be bored in school if the curriculum was designed by an artist? Being an artist, I feel I was born for a reason: not only to create art and music, but to bring the people around me to their soul. Also to give them a creative perspective. To change the world on the block where I live.
Joseph Campbell said the artists are the true Bodhisattvas of our day.

I see you! I SEE you! ... and you are glorious.

the point, is that YOU are seeing yourself!

i just read this beautiful quote, 'we can not become what we can not SEE' ...
We need artists, our society needs artists, because artists dare to experiment with our own lives...and help others SEE themselves through our own failings and triumphs... we are not a sum of paintings or photos or stories, we are a process unfolding...
Artists know theres more beneath the surface, unseen...

We are essential- never more critically than now- because our culture is hurting from its own self-defeating blindness.
we forgot what we really are...
ARTISTS awaken the Soul's vision for the world.
We help All of us see what is important, what needs doing...

I am Metis, and one of my guiding quotes came from Louis Riel--our visionary leader who lead our Metis rebellions against the confederation of Canada--He was an artist, and a writer, and he helped Metis people SEE what was coming (genocidal colonial oppression of Native peoples)... in one of his journals (he prayed in written form, 18th century conversations with God) ... "My People will sleep for a Hundred Years, and when they wake, it will be the Artists who give them back their Spirit".

another beautiful epiphany regarding artists comes from Ernst Fischer:
“In a decaying society, art, if it is truthful, must also reflect decay. And unless it wants to break faith with its social function, art must show the world as changeable. And help to change it.”

Artists are able to see different than other people, and cultivating that ability goes a long, long way.
Nothing about the world has ever changed, for better or for worse, without an Artistic push.

...and frankly, I beleive this is why our mainstream society suppresses and neglects artistic gifts in children...besides being very difficult to be a round gem in a square pinhole, artist children become restless and persuasive adults.
